The CLARiTY 1 for protein concentration (aka, the IC280) lets you work with protein & phenolics in any concentration, in any medium.
These “little miracle instruments” are low cost, single application versions of the scanning CLARiTY models. It was the scanning CLARiTY VF which captured the protein concentration data at left (published in Analytical Chemistry, May 2018). As you see, there is no difference among the four answers at 280 nm of the protein concentration in clear and increasingly turbid media. The single-application CLARiTY 1 returns only the numeric value AU/cm value at 280 nm; data acquisition takes about 3 seconds.
The CLARiTY 1 is designed for laboratories which routinely make 280 nm readings and who would like the option of reducing or eliminating clarification steps.
Choose between sample introduction in a 2 mL test tube or a 0.9 mL flow-through cell. The test tube offers convenience and success with low concentration samples. The flow-through cell is a very short pathlength alternative, designed for high absorbance preparations (> 5 AU/cm).
Operation is with a touch-screen display. Output of results is to Bluetooth.
Other models are available with two wavelengths (e.g., 260:280 nm) and three wavelengths (e.g., 280, 340, 520 nm).

The bane of UV/Vis measurements is scatter. If you want the correct answer from a cuvette spectrometer, your sample preparation must be clear.
Since it is virtually impossible to remove 100% of the scatter, all sorts of schemes have been introduced over the years to “correct” for scatter. None are easy, quick, and fully successful.
No correction is required when you have a CLARiTY. By design, an integrating cavity spectrometer cannot see scatter. It only sees absorbance changes in the clear or turbid sample.
